Glencoe's on Fire 4 God: Junior church

Holy week events help us remember the sacrifice of our Lord on Good Friday, and His resurrection on Easter. Join us Wednesday or Thursday for a quiet time of meditation. On Maundy Thursday we will celebrate the Last Supper with a Christian Seder program. A soup supper will be shared. The Community Good Friday service will be held at 10:45. Meet at Glencoe Presbyterian at 10:30 as the cross is carried to Faith Pentecostal. We will celebrate Christ's resurrection at the communion worship service on April 5.

Busy Sunday Mornings? Join us for our mid-week worship services Tuesdays at 7:00pm. Worship songs, message, refreshments. Suitable for teens, families, young adults, seniors.

Junior church

Are you looking for a church where your family can worship together?

Would you like to attend worship but the “kids can’t sit through the whole service”?

Beginning Sunday, October 8, 2011, Glencoe Presbyterian Church will be offering “Junior church” during our worship service at 11:15 a.m.

Families will begin worship together, and then children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 will participate in an age appropriate worship. Nursery for younger children is also available.

What's Happening this Week

Make Today a Day of Gratitude!

I encourage you to make today a day of GRATITUDE.

From Rev. Deb:
As of today, February 25, Dad continues to improve, had a little fall yesterday, but not to be concerned Mom said. Thank God for Mom’s safety after a slip into the ditch last week when the roads were all ice and drifting. Into the ditch – and over until she landed back on all four tires. Looks like a new vehicle is needed - the roof is pretty well smooshed in! I thought people slowed down in retirement, but she seems to be competing with the stunt women of 2014!
I give thanks for -> Dad’s healing and Mom’s safety and health! -> For two active children and my hard-working, healthy husband! -> For being Canadian!

Praise God! God is GOOD ALL THE TIME!

What can you give thanks for today?

Honestly, do not just tell everyone else, and certainly don’t keep it to yourself! Tell God and then - tell them!!!

Morning Prayer - the BEST START

How many days do you jump out of bed and forget to pray? Here is a simple solution. First, open your eyes and say, "Good morning God!" Second, lay very still and ask, "God, today, please carry any burden that is too heavy for me to carry alone and forgive me when I don't." Next, sincerely seek and ask, "Lord, help me to hear your voice in my heart or through somebody else's words. Open my eyes to the needs of others and push me into action so that I can serve you and be a glimmer of hope and compassion as Christ uses me for his purposes." Finally, give thanks, "Lord, Thank you for the good news of your salvation - bless this person that they will come to know you and grow closer in relationship with you. Thank you Jesus! Amen."

Making Arrangements

1. Please contact the minister directly to make an initial appointment to discuss the possibility of your wedding, the date and location.

2. When the church is your chosen location, the minister then takes your request to the session of the church for approval.

3. After having received approval with the minister and the session, the couple will meet with the minister. This consists of at least three sessions of pre-marriage preparation and service planning with the minister.

4. The Rehearsal is traditionally held the evening before the date of the ceremony, otherwise, request this early in the planning stages so that arrangements may be confirmed in advance. Thank you.

It is the couple’s responsibility to arrange for a marriage license or to ask the minister about announcing the banns of marriage. (Banns of marriage may be read in church as a basis for the marriage of those who are professing members who regularly attend worship. The banns must be read at least once during a regular service, and at least five days before the wedding ceremony.)

The Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony is a worship service and you and your fiancé are making vows to each other, to God, and in front of God and the guests. The minister will provide you with a package of choices (which includes the service and scripture options) for you to make your ceremony personal, and once you have made some decisions together, you can confirm them with the minister.

Music arrangements can be made in consultation with the minister and organist. (Leave a message at the church.) The minister of the congregation is the one who will officiate the service. Should you wish another minister to participate, please consult with the minister of Glencoe Presbyterian Church.

Also, if you would like the minister to attend the reception and to say grace, please make that request so that the minister can arrange to be present.

Wedding Rehearsal

Rehearsals are usually held the evening before the wedding, with the time to be set in consultation with the minister. Those present at the rehearsal should be: bride, groom, attendants, parents and any others involved in the service.

Honorariums $$$ How Much?

Did you skip here first? An honorarium is a gift reflecting appreciation of time, effort preparation and reflections involved in making the wedding service possible. Please pass these along to the minister on the night of the rehearsal.

Custodian…..$ 75.00

Organist……$100.00 + $25 to accompany a soloist

Other Details

Photos may be taken at the time of the entrance of the wedding party, the signing of the register and when the new couple leaves. Please, no pictures to be taken during the vows. Video cameras are allowed only if the person is non-intrusive, limited movement or stationary tripod. Concerning flowers, candles and decorating the church please consult with the minister. Candles must be extinguished as soon as possible after the service. Confetti or rice, is not allowed to be thrown in the church building or grounds. WORSHIP
Every Sunday morning we gather to worship our Lord and Saviour. We praise God with song (both traditional and contemporary), and with prayer.
We learn about God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and we experience his grace by listening to The Word read and shared in Scripture. As the Word is interpreted using common, everyday language, we are challenged to experience God speaking to our hearts using the five senses: hearing, seeing, touching, smelling and tasting. Through the message offered in the sermon: we are challenged to stop making excuses and live positive results in our lives to the Glory of God!
